Sexual Assault And Abuse
There is no question that sexual assault and abuse claims are among the most sensitive that we handle at Cooper Sevillano. The magnitude of psychological consequences on the victims in our experience have been unimaginable. We wish as advocates for victims we could turn back the clock of time. But we cannot. Rather, what we can do is hold the perpetrators responsible to the full extent of the law.
At Cooper Sevillano, we have handled a variety of sexual assault claims including assaults against students at high schools and college campuses, assaults against employees in the work place, assaults against prisoners and assaults against the elderly predominately in nursing homes. We also have extensive experience in abuse claims involving children, and have handled such cases against teachers, coaches, mentors, the clergy, the police, as well as some of the organizations responsible for hiring the individuals committing the abuse.
As with all our cases, our process starts with a meeting to allow us to gather the facts and circumstances of the claim, and to give us an opportunity to answer any questions. Often times with sexual assault and abuse claims, we are called upon to provide assistance that does not necessary relate directly to the lawsuit, and we have worked with medical professionals and health care workers to give our clients the best chance at getting better.
Unfortunately, a full recovery is almost never obtainable in these situations, and we perceive our duty as attorneys as being responsible to use the civil law to recover as much compensation as we can under the circumstances in an effort to make up for the harm.
If you or a loved one believe you have been the victim of abuse or assault, give us a call so we can help navigate you through the difficult and confusing landscape that often mixes criminal and civil areas of the law. It is important to keep in mind that while wrongdoers need to be punished by the law, and in that regard we urge you to cooperate to the fullest extent possible, the criminal process does little to nothing to compensate you or your loved one. And that is where Cooper Sevillano comes in, to make sure that in addition to any punishment, there is also payment to compensate the victim side.
