Wrongful Death

Anytime someone is killed because of the carelessness or misconduct of another person or organization, it is normal to feel a flood of emotions including sadness, sorrow, grief, anger and a great deal of confusion about how exactly to feel and what to do next.  Often times people have difficulty in the immediate aftermath of the death and this difficultly can easily last months to a year or more after.  In our experience handling cases resulting in unnatural death from car and other vehicular accidents, drownings, falls, medical errors, shootings and defective products, we have learned that each person’s journey and healing process is unique.  At Cooper Sevillano we have found that our expertise and assistance early on in these cases gives our clients the peace of mind of knowing the right thing is being done for their loved one and family while at the same time giving them the freedom to grieve and heal at their own pace.

When it comes to cases involving death, it is important that the lawyer handling the case be familiar with many important aspects of the law that are not always readily apparent and often times overlooked by inexperienced lawyers.  At Cooper Sevillano, we have settled and tried to verdict numerous wrongful death cases and are very familiar with the types of claims that children and spouses of the deceased can recover including compensation for lost financial support, lost income, any physical and emotional pain and suffering prior to death and the death itself.  We have also successfully pursued claims involving punitive damages in death cases, meaning we have obtained additional compensation for our clients because of the egregious nature of the acts causing death.
